2. Age requirement
- HireHopping is intended only for users who are 18 years or older.
- Users are required to confirm that they are 18 years or older during account onboarding.
3. Information we collect
- Account information such as your name, email address, phone number, user ID, and account status.
- Profile information such as your profile photo and display name.
- Location information such as an address, city, province, postal code, latitude, and longitude where required to provide nearby listings or rental functionality.
- Listings and marketplace information including tool names, descriptions, categories, prices, availability, rental terms, and uploaded tool photos.
- Booking and rental information including requests, booking dates, rental status, payment references, cancellation information, return information, and dispute-related records.
- Messages and reviews submitted through HireHopping.
- Reports, blocking information, moderation records, and safety-related information.
- Verification information and verification status where identity verification is required.
- Payout information required to configure lessor payouts, such as account-holder name, bank information, account number, and related payment-provider information.
- App usage, analytics, diagnostics, performance information, and crash logs.
4. Identity verification (KYC)
- HireHopping may require identity verification before users can access certain features, including requesting or publishing rentals.
- Identity verification may be performed by an approved third-party verification provider such as Didit.
- Verification providers may collect identity documents, facial images, verification results, device information, and other information required to confirm identity and prevent fraud.
- HireHopping may receive verification results or status information from the verification provider rather than storing every document used during verification.
5. Payments and payouts
- Payments and payouts may be processed using third-party payment providers such as Paystack.
- Payment providers may process transaction information, payment references, banking information, account-holder information, and other information required to process payments and payouts.
- HireHopping does not directly store full payment card details.
- HireHopping may temporarily store or process payout information required to create or manage a lessor payout account.

- To create and manage user accounts.
- To provide listings, rentals, bookings, messaging, reviews, and other marketplace features.
- To show nearby tools and location-relevant marketplace information.
- To process payments, refunds, deposits, and lessor payouts.
- To verify identities, reduce fraud, and improve platform safety.
- To review and moderate listings, reviews, messages, reports, and other user-generated content.
- To investigate reports, disputes, abuse, suspected fraud, unsafe behaviour, or violations of HireHopping policies.
- To prevent blocked users from interacting where the platform provides blocking functionality.
- To provide customer support and respond to user requests.
- To improve app performance, reliability, functionality, and user experience.
- To comply with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or law-enforcement obligations.
7. User-generated content and moderation
- HireHopping may process listings, rental terms, reviews, messages, reports, and other user-generated content to operate and protect the platform.
- Automated filters may be used to identify potentially abusive, threatening, sexually explicit, fraudulent, unsafe, or otherwise prohibited content.
- Content may also be reviewed manually where necessary for moderation, safety, disputes, fraud prevention, or policy enforcement.
- Users may report inappropriate content or behaviour and may block other users where these features are available.
- Moderation records may be retained where reasonably necessary to prevent abuse, investigate repeated violations, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations.
8. Sharing your information
- HireHopping does not sell your personal information.
- Limited profile and rental information may be shared with other users where necessary to arrange and complete rentals.
- Information may be shared with payment providers such as Paystack to process payments, refunds, and payouts.
- Information may be shared with identity-verification providers such as Didit where verification is required.
- Information may be processed by cloud, hosting, database, analytics, storage, authentication, and diagnostic service providers used to operate HireHopping.
- Information may be disclosed where required by law, court order, regulatory obligation, or where reasonably necessary to prevent fraud, abuse, harm, or illegal activity.
9. Firebase and cloud services
- HireHopping uses cloud services, including Firebase services, for functions such as authentication, database storage, file storage, analytics, and crash reporting.
- These services may process technical information, user identifiers, device information, diagnostic information, and other data required to provide their services.
- Some information may be processed or stored on infrastructure located outside South Africa, subject to applicable data-protection safeguards.
10. Location information
- HireHopping may collect or process location information where required to create listings, display tool locations, or provide nearby-search functionality.
- Location information should only be used for legitimate HireHopping marketplace purposes.
- Users should avoid publishing unnecessary precise personal location information in listing descriptions or messages.
11. Photos and images
- Users may upload profile photos and tool-listing images.
- Uploaded images may be stored using cloud-storage services used by HireHopping.
- Users should only upload images that they are authorised to use and that comply with HireHopping policies.
- HireHopping may remove images that violate platform policies or legal requirements.
12. Security
- HireHopping uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information.
- Security measures may include authenticated access, access controls, encrypted network communication, and restricted database or storage permissions.
- No electronic system or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
- Users are responsible for protecting their account credentials and should report suspected unauthorised access as soon as possible.
13. Data retention
- Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or where continued retention is required or permitted by law.
- Certain transaction, payment, dispute, fraud-prevention, moderation, safety, tax, or legal records may be retained after an account is closed where necessary.
- Information that is no longer required may be deleted, anonymised, or de-identified in accordance with applicable law and operational requirements.
14. Account deletion
- Users may request deletion of their HireHopping account through the account-deletion options provided by HireHopping.
- Account deletion may remove or anonymise personal profile information, subject to information that HireHopping is legally or operationally required to retain.
- Information connected to completed transactions, payments, disputes, fraud prevention, moderation, or legal obligations may be retained where required or permitted.
- HireHopping provides a public account deletion page where users can request account deletion without needing access to the app.

- You may request access to personal information HireHopping holds about you.
- You may request correction or updating of inaccurate or incomplete personal information.

16. POPIA
HireHopping processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and other applicable South African law.
- HireHopping aims to process personal information lawfully, reasonably, and only for legitimate purposes.
- Users may request correction or deletion of personal information in accordance with applicable POPIA rights.
- Users may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if they believe their personal information has been processed unlawfully.
