Terms & Conditions

The rules that help keep HireHopping simple, safe, and fair for everyone.

Last updated: August 2026

1. Overview

These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and HireHopping. By creating an account, accessing the platform, or using HireHopping, you agree to comply with these Terms.

2. HireHopping is an intermediary

HireHopping provides a platform for Lessors and Renters to connect. The rental agreement is primarily between the Lessor and the Renter.

  • HireHopping is not the owner, supplier, manufacturer, or operator of tools listed by users.
  • HireHopping is not responsible for user conduct, tool condition, or how rented items are used, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
  • HireHopping may remove listings, cancel bookings, restrict transactions, or suspend accounts where we reasonably believe these Terms or platform policies have been breached.

3. Eligibility and account rules

  • You must be 18 years or older to create an account or use HireHopping.
  • By using HireHopping, you confirm that you are legally capable of entering into rental agreements and other transactions made through the platform.
  • You must provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login details and account secure.
  • You may not impersonate another person, create misleading accounts, or use another person’s identity without permission.
  • HireHopping may require identity or other verification before certain features become available.

4. Lessors

  • Lessors must list items honestly and provide accurate descriptions, photos, pricing, availability, and condition information.
  • Lessors may only list items they own or are legally authorised to rent.
  • Lessors must only list items that are lawful and reasonably safe to rent when used correctly.
  • Lessors are responsible for ensuring that tools are handed over in the condition described.
  • Handovers and returns must take place as agreed between the parties.
  • HireHopping may deduct applicable platform or handling fees from lessor payouts.

5. Renters

  • Renters must use rented items safely, lawfully, responsibly, and in accordance with any reasonable instructions provided.
  • Renters must not permit unauthorised persons to use rented tools where doing so would be unsafe or unlawful.
  • Renters must return items on time and in the agreed condition, subject to normal wear where applicable.
  • Renters may be responsible for loss or damage during the rental, subject to the rental agreement, evidence provided, applicable law, and the HireHopping dispute process.

6. Rental fees and platform fees

  • Renters pay the total rental amount shown at checkout.
  • The checkout amount may include rental fees, deposits, service fees, or other clearly disclosed amounts.
  • HireHopping may include a renter service fee in the total checkout amount.
  • HireHopping may deduct a platform handling fee from lessor payouts.
  • Fees may change over time, but applicable charges will be shown before payment where required.
  • Optional Premium plans may be offered to Lessors with additional features or benefits.

7. Payments and payouts

  • Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers such as Paystack.
  • HireHopping does not directly store full payment card details.
  • Banking and payout information may be processed or transmitted as required to configure payouts.
  • Payout timing may depend on the payment provider, booking status, dispute status, deposit status, and platform safety rules.
  • Lessor payouts may only become eligible for settlement after the rental has been completed, the return process has finished, and any applicable safety or dispute-review window has passed.

8. Deposits

Deposits may be charged at checkout to help protect Lessors against loss, late return, damage, or other agreed risks.

  • If the item is returned correctly and no issue is reported, the deposit may be released in accordance with the applicable process.
  • If damage, loss, late return, or another dispute is reported, HireHopping may hold or review the deposit before it is released.
  • Deposit deductions may depend on evidence provided by the Lessor and Renter.
  • A deposit does not necessarily limit a user’s liability where losses exceed the deposit amount and applicable law allows further recovery.

9. Cancellations and refunds

  • If a booking is cancelled more than 24 hours before the rental starts, the renter may receive a full rental refund, excluding any non-refundable service fees where applicable.
  • If a booking is cancelled within 24 hours before the rental starts, the renter may receive a partial refund based on the cancellation policy shown in the app.
  • If a booking is cancelled on or after the rental start time, the renter may not be eligible for a refund.
  • Refund eligibility may be affected by payment-provider rules, disputes, suspected fraud, or other exceptional circumstances.
  • The applicable cancellation and refund information will be shown in the app where relevant.

10. User-generated content and conduct

  • You are responsible for the listings, descriptions, reviews, messages, photos, profile information, rental terms, and other content you submit through HireHopping.
  • User-generated content must be accurate, lawful, relevant to the platform, and consistent with these Terms and the Prohibited Items & Conduct policy.
  • Users may not submit abusive, threatening, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, fraudulent, misleading, illegal, or otherwise harmful content.
  • Users may not use the platform to harass, intimidate, exploit, impersonate, scam, or deliberately mislead another user.
  • Users may not use HireHopping to promote illegal transactions or attempt to bypass platform safety, verification, moderation, payment, or dispute processes.
  • HireHopping may use automated filters and manual moderation to detect, restrict, review, or remove content that may violate these Terms or platform policies.
  • Users may report inappropriate content, listings, conversations, or behaviour through the reporting tools provided in the app.
  • Users may block another user where the platform provides a blocking feature.
  • Repeated or serious violations may result in content removal, booking cancellation, warnings, account suspension, or permanent account termination.

11. Prohibited items

  • Users may not list or rent items prohibited by HireHopping’s Prohibited Items & Conduct policy.
  • HireHopping may remove or restrict any listing that appears unsafe, unlawful, misleading, inappropriate, or unsuitable for the platform.

12. Reviews

  • Reviews must reflect the user’s genuine experience of a completed rental or relevant interaction.
  • Users may not submit fake, retaliatory, abusive, threatening, discriminatory, or intentionally misleading reviews.
  • HireHopping may restrict or remove reviews that appear to violate platform rules.

13. Reports, blocking, and moderation

  • Users may report inappropriate content, unsafe listings, suspected fraud, harassment, threats, or other misconduct.
  • Users may block another user where the relevant feature is available.
  • HireHopping may review reports, messages, listings, transaction information, account information, and other relevant evidence where necessary for safety, moderation, fraud prevention, or dispute handling.
  • HireHopping may take action based on the seriousness of the conduct and the available evidence.
  • Submitting deliberately false or malicious reports may result in account action.

14. Disputes

  • HireHopping may assist with dispute review and mediation but does not guarantee a particular outcome.
  • Users may be asked to provide photos, messages, receipts, tool-condition information, or other supporting evidence.
  • Users must cooperate reasonably with the dispute process where they request HireHopping’s assistance.

15. Account suspension and termination

  • HireHopping may issue warnings, temporarily suspend accounts, or permanently terminate accounts where users breach these Terms or platform policies.
  • Serious safety, fraud, illegal-activity, harassment, or abuse concerns may result in immediate restriction or suspension.
  • Certain records may be retained after account suspension or deletion where required for legal, fraud-prevention, safety, payment, dispute, or regulatory purposes.

16. Changes to the platform or Terms

  • HireHopping may update platform features, policies, fees, or these Terms from time to time.
  • Where material changes are made, HireHopping may provide notice through the app, website, email, or another appropriate method.
  • Continued use of the platform after updated Terms take effect may constitute acceptance where permitted by law.

17. Legal and jurisdiction

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
  • Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer or other legislation.
  • Disputes involving HireHopping will be handled in accordance with applicable South African law and the jurisdiction of the relevant South African courts.
